Michael Clayton

Michael Clayton

dir:Tony Gilroy
Cast:George Clooney
Tom Wilkinson
Tilda Swinton
Sydney Pollack

Mr Clooney plays Michael Clayton an attorney who cleans up messes rather then solves cases who gets involved in something a little bigger then he expected.

Right i don’t get it, this is an average film. Well acted sure, tight script and no glaring directorial mistakes. But i just cant see how this has managed to get its self so many award nods. Best film and director at the Oscers? mmm just seems a bit odd to me. Don’t get me wrong its an enjoyable film but at the same time you just watch it thinking “this is a film Harrison Ford could have made in the mid 90’s”. It just doesn’t know where it wants to go. Major plot points struggle for attention amid character conflict and in-each-others-faces duologue.
It all just seems a bit messy, maybe fitting for a film where the main characters describe themselves as Janitors. However, i doubt this was an intentional step.
Obviously a lot of folk have a lot of good words to say about this film, I’m just not one of them

The Good

  • Some good performances, maybe a little bit too much of an eye on possible awards from some
  • Tight dialogue
  • Clooney continues in his attempts to educate American audiences.

The Bad

  • Thinks its a lot cleverer then it is
  • Too many pointless sub plots
  • No real attachment with any of the characters

At The End of it All:
A disappointment that wants to have a better story then it has.

5/10
